Cork Fabric

Cork is harvested from the cork oak tree. The cork oak grows in the forests of Mediterranean countries. The largest concentration of plantations is found in Spain and Portugal. The Chinese Cork Oak (Quercus variabilis) is a wild crop in China.

The average lifespan of a cork oak is approximately 170 years. The bark, from which cork is made, is harvested every 10-12 years. Harvesting cork does not harm the tree and a new layer of cork re-grows. Cork is an abundant natural and renewable resource.

Cork fabric is produced using thin sheets of natural cork laminated to a cotton blend backing. This versatile and lightweight fabric is stain-resistant and easy to wipe clean. Cork does not retain moisture, and is therefore waterproof and washable.
