Overview

The Jora JK270 Composter simplifies and speeds up the process of making compost. It is a 'continuous-use' dual chamber composter. Dual chambers allow you to keep adding new materials to one compartment while the other matures. Because the unit is insulated and sealed, it converts kitchen waste to compost in as little as two weeks.

With a capacity of 9.5 cubic feet, the Jora JK270 can easily handle daily composting of kitchen scraps for a family of four or more. It is suitable for larger households, small restaurants, B&Bs, schools, and care homes.

Features & Benefits:

  • 'Continuous-use' dual chamber composter
  • Durable galvanized steel construction
  • Holds 9.5 cubic feet (71 gallons) of compost
  • Operating capacity: 6 to 8 gallons per week
  • Easy to use - rotates easily for maximum aeration
  • Insulated - great for cool climates and all-weather composting
  • Fully-enclosed and pest resistant
  • Elevated rodent proof design
  • Reduces odors

*Please note, to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Jora, we highly recommend keeping it undercover and protected from direct exposure to rain. While these tumblers are built to withstand the elements, prolonged exposure to moisture can accelerate the onset of rust and potentially shorten the lifespan of the unit. Storing your tumbler in a sheltered area, such as a covered patio or shed, will help maintain its integrity.

Dual Chambers

The JK270 is divided into two compartments, so one side is filled while the compost in the other side matures. Once one compartment is full, the mature compost can be emptied from the other compartment, and the cycle begins again. You can use the composter continuously, with no waiting between batches.

Insulation

Composting generates heat, and the different microorganisms start working at different temperatures. The HDPE insulation in the JK270 composter allows the temperature to rise to 150° F for faster, more efficient processing of your organic waste. At these temperatures fresh waste starts to break down before it has a chance to rot and attract pests. With its superior insulation, the Jora composter will continue working through winter, long after other composters have stopped completely.

Rotation

  • Easy to spin - simply turn by hand after adding waste
  • Fresh waste is brought into direct contact with decaying waste
  • Adds air to the mixture, providing oxygen vital for microbial activity

What can be composted?

  • Raw and cooked food scraps e.g. vegetables, fruit, eggshells, meat, fish, bread
  • Garden waste e.g. flower cuttings, leaves, weeds, grass clippings
  • Shredded paper and cardboard e.g. egg cartons
  • Light pet waste e.g. rabbit or hamster bedding

The Jora JK270 Composter will accept organic household waste or anything biodegradable. After adding waste, it will take about 6 to 8 weeks for each chamber to produce compost. Once both chambers are in operation you should be emptying one chamber every 3 to 4 weeks.

Rodent Proof:

The Jora JK270 Composter is sited off the ground so there is no possibility of rodents or other pests gaining access to the waste in the composter.

Construction:

  • Exterior: galvanized steel panels, powder coated to last for years. The steel panels will withstand extreme freezing without developing cracks, and will hold up well to prolonged sun exposure without any deterioration of the finish.
  • Insulation: 2.16" HDPE polyethylene - a stable, non-toxic plastic
  • Galvanized steel stand
  • Stainless steel hardware

*Please note, assembly requires at least two people. Due to the nature of the insulation and steel panels, assembling your Jora can be difficult.

In wet climates, it is best to place the Jora composter under cover to avoid rain soaking the contents. This cover could be the overhang of a roof, adjacent to a building or shed, or even the cover of a tree.

    Wonderful composter!

It’s handsome. It rotates smoothly. I really do love this composter. It’s better than any I’ve had. Words of advice: it’s not as easy to assemble as their video will have you believe. That being said, watch the video and DO NOT follow the instructions that come with it. I am a small woman who put this together myself using the instructions… in the hot sun. The metal was burning my arms as I strained and struggled to squeeze the styrofoam together and get screws in their proper alignment with this thing spinning around. The steps used in the video make it seem much easier, but they cut away from how difficult it is to squeeze the parts together. A partner would be a big help. In the end, it was well worth it. It’s beautiful to use and to behold.

    Great so far

We put together our first of 3 composters...it was easier than we thought. It is up and "filling". Thank you for your superb customer support.

    Jk270 composter

This is the first composter Ive bought myself. I did a lot of research before selecting this one. It was relatively easy to put together; my husband put it together for me within an hour. It is so spacious! Omg! We are vegan family of four, so we have a lot of fruit and vegetable "waste" everyday. We still haven't even come close to filling one side up yet. I would definitely recommend this composter to anyone who is looking compost long term; one because it is an investment $$$ and two it's so worth it. I can't wait to transform my backyard in the spring!

    It's half plastic. . .

We expected to pay this high price for a metal composter, one that would stand up to time and elements and not add microplastics to our compost and then veggie beds. . However, what they don't show you is that the interior components are styrofoam and plastic. Apparently to add insulation? Garbage. We strongly don't recommend this product.

Great product-needs to 2 to assemble

Ok so I want to start off by saying you must have two people to put this together. The panels are very tight which is great thanks to the insulation but it is impossible to do by yourself. I had experience with Joras and they are amazing. I love this medium size which makes it easy to turn even when full and I prefer the handles on the center so that you can use both hands to turn (I have issues with my hands).

Early thoughts: thorough workmanship and design

I:m an engineer in backwoods Vermont. It's cold, it's dark, it's full of black bears, and composting is now mandatory (because it's one of the top ways to reduce your carbon footprint!!). . Assembly takes some time and space, and a few restarts until you see how it's supposed to go. But once complete, it is solid, with no sharp edges, easy to rotate, and a good design. But what gives it five stars for me? YOU CAN USE PELLETS AS BROWNS IN COMPOST?? I mean, of course you can. . . . I almost want to turn in my engineering license. . . But anyways thank you for your excellently written manual which noted this game changing nugget of wisdom for a house heated by pellets! FWIW, I haven't yet filled the first side, so unable to report on function. . . Though it is getting much hotter in there than the previous tumbler did.

    As mentioned in other reviews,

As mentioned in other reviews, it is a bit tricky to put together. The video helps, and another person is necessary. It's easy to use, and is attractive compared to other compost bins. I started using it 2 months ago and it seems to be composting, which has been challenging with other methods here in the high desert.

    So far so good

The video instructions were good but it would be nice if you would show the final product before we start. And don’t stand in front of the unit. We took panels off a few times to move them into correct positions.

Also I sent you a question about brown material. I want to use leaves and other garden debris instead of sawdust or pellets. I asked about ratio. I never got a response from your team.

And it does attract gnats. That wasn’t mentioned but I guess I should have known!!
