Overview

This 3' x 6' cedar raised garden bed makes gardening a breeze. At 20 inches high, you can access the garden without kneeling on the ground, which saves your back and knees from becoming strained over time. The trellis - which doubles as a lid - allows more growing space for vining plants such as peas, beans, tomatoes and cucumbers. When the plants are small, the lid will protect them from critters and allow the seedlings to grow.

We call this raised garden bed "the convertible" as it features removable greenhouse panels to protect the plants from frost. Once the plants mature, the greenhouse panels can be removed and the lid can be opened to serve as a trellis.

Features & Benefits:

  • Sturdy and easy to assemble
  • Solid western red cedar construction
  • 20" high raised garden bed, soil fills right to the bottom
  • 13.5" high perimeter fence keeps out pesky critters
  • Front fence panels fold down for easy access to plants and soil
  • Trellis maximizes growing space for climbing plants
  • Two pre-assembled trellis panels with mesh
  • Cedar arm for easy opening and closing of the trellis-lid
  • 6mm Polygal greenhouse panels for sides and lid for climate control
  • Includes all necessary hardware

Hinged Fencing

The 13.5" fence that surrounds the raised garden bed is backed with a durable wire mesh screen. The front fence panels are fixed to the bed with heavy duty hinges, allowing you to easily access the garden, while keeping out animals such as rabbits and dogs. It is 33.5 inches from the ground to the top of the fence.

Trellis

Trellis doubles as a lid – perfect for keeping pests out of your garden when plants are young and the lid is down. As your plants grow, turn your lid into a trellis for climbing plants. You can easily open and close the trellis lid with two included cedar arms. The total height from the ground to the top of the trellis is 71 inches. The height with lid closed is 35 inches.

Greenhouse Panels

This garden comes with removable greenhouse panels to turn your garden bed into a mini greenhouse! The 6mm thick Polygal panels are mounted in front of the screens and on the lid to insulate the raised bed from cool weather. It is ideal for an early start on seed propagation, seedling growth, water control and extending your growing season.

Attached with clips, the greenhouse panels can easily be adjusted to control temperature and humidity. Simply slide the panels open to allow ventilation. When frost is no longer a threat, the greenhouse panels can be removed completely and you can open the lid, converting it into a trellis.

Assembly:

This raised garden bed takes about 2-3 hours to assemble, and comes with illustrated step-by-step instructions. All hardware is included.

    Stand Alone Garden Unit

This is an incredible little garden unit. It came nicely boxed and the directions booklets were straight forward and easy for me - I am visual so I liked the pictures. I wondered as I was putting it together, if it might be a little complex for someone who has not grown up around tools and wood working since the customer had to do all the predrilling and observe the detailed directions carefully. I encourage everyone since I am 67 and I managed it on my own. Thank goodness for my battery powered drill and screwdriver!!! Even working slowly and carefully I did not get it perfectly square, but close enough. I would probably have liked metal hinges instead of plastic ones, but at least they won't rust or freeze up in the wet and cold. The wire mess sides and backare great for keeping critters out, but also limit access. If I could change one thing it would be to let the back panels fold down like the ones in the front. But then the stability of the trellis may be affected. As a result, I can only reach in from the front - thank goodness for the support of the middle post to lean on or at 5'2" I would end up nose down in my sweet potatoes. I am spoiled by the habit of being able to access both sides of my 3' wide raised beds but I can adjust. I will be anxious to see it it helps extend my growing season with the snug fitting poly panels. I know this may not sound like a rave review, but all in all this is a really creative and well thought out unit that I hope will give me years…

    Raised bed and greenhouse kit

Kit was well appointed with all the parts and very good instructions. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. We planted our vegetable this week and are looking forward to reaping the rewards. We will most likely buy more of these when the weather gets better.

Would not pay extra for trellis and greenhouse kit

Purchased in 2020 so have two years under the belt. The trellis lid wood has warped so bad I have to use bricks on the corners to keep it down flush. Also, trellis often falls down when in upright position- a light breeze often knocks it down despite being placed against the garage. Thankfully I had sturdy tomato cages up last year so it didn't crush any midsize crops or flowers, just leaned against the cages. Three fasteners of the poly sheets have broken on the lid (probably due to the slamming effect it has when it falls out of the upright position and onto the fencing) and have had to finagle new ways to keep them secure. I'm wondering if that's why when seedlings put out to harden this spring died due to colder temperatures, though the in ground crops (peas, beets) did just fine. Slightly disappointed in the mini greenhouse and trellis aspect of this kit but would purchase the garden bed with hinged fencing again as it does keep the rabbits, cats and kiddos out.

    Great Idea

I love the idea with the extra green house addition to extend the growing season. It was a little more complicated to put together than advertised. I think some of the parts could be a bit better engineered as well. It did require us using our own drill bits and we still had a hard time getting all the pieces to fit just right. The clips to install the greenhouse inserts were also a bit difficult to fit just right. But eventually we got it done. They could design it a bit more like Ikea where more of a layman could put it together. Paying an extra $250ish for the green house inserts might be a little much as well. I have a feeling those parts cost them less than 50 all in so quite a mark up. In the end our hopes are high that the design will allow us to grow on an extended basis without being invaded by external creatures. Also hoping that these green house inserts will not get damaged as I have a feeling we will have a hard time replacing them if they are damaged.

    Too early to say

The design is the envy of other raised beds in the neighborhood for sure! I hired someone to assemble the kit and apparently they were confused by the 3 assembly booklets. Ultimately they overlooked the correct instructions for the removable panels. I am concerned for the durability of the "lid" which is why I say 'it's too early to say"
