Overview

The Jora JK400 Composter simplifies and speeds up the process of making compost. It is a 'continuous-use' dual chamber composter. Dual chambers allow you to keep adding new materials to one compartment while the other matures. Because the unit is insulated and sealed, it converts kitchen waste to compost in as little as two weeks.

With a capacity of 14.2 cubic feet, the Jora JK400 can easily handle large quantities of kitchen scraps and garden waste. Suitable for larger households, restaurants, schools, or shared use between multiple families.

Features & Benefits:

  • 'Continuous-use' dual chamber composter
  • Durable galvanized steel construction
  • Holds 14.2 cubic feet (106 gallons) of compost
  • Operating capacity: 13 to 21 gallons per week
  • Easy to use - tumbles easily for maximum aeration
  • Insulated - great for cool climates and all-weather composting
  • Fully-enclosed and pest resistant
  • Rodent proof design
  • Reduces odors

*Please note, to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Jora, we highly recommend keeping it undercover and protected from direct exposure to rain. While these tumblers are built to withstand the elements, prolonged exposure to moisture can accelerate the onset of rust and potentially shorten the lifespan of the unit. Storing your tumbler in a sheltered area, such as a covered patio or shed, will help maintain its integrity.

Dual Compartments

The JK400 is divided into two large compartments, so one side can be filled while the other side's compost matures. Once the compartment being filled can take no more, the mature compost can be emptied from the other compartment, and the cycle begins again. You can use the composter continuously, with no waiting between batches.

Insulation

The composting process generates heat, and different microorganisms work at different temperatures. The HDPE insulation in the JK400 composter allows the temperature to rise higher than 160F resulting in faster and more efficient processing of your organic waste. At these temperatures the process is so rapid that fresh waste starts to break down before it has a chance to rot and attract pests. With its superior insulation, the JK400 Composter will continue working through winter, long after other composters have stopped completely.

Rotating Compost

  • Easy to rotate - simply turn by hand after adding waste
  • Fresh waste is brought into direct contact with decaying waste
  • Adds air to the mixture, providing oxygen vital for microbial activity

What can be composted?

  • Raw and cooked food scraps (e.g. vegetables, fruit, eggshells, meat, fish, bread)
  • Garden waste (e.g. flower cuttings, leaves, weeds, grass clippings)
  • Shredded paper and cardboard (e.g. egg cartons)
  • Light pet waste (e.g. rabbit or hamster bedding)

The JK400 Composter will accept organic household waste or anything biodegradable. After adding waste, it will take about 6 to 8 weeks for each chamber to produce compost. Once both chambers are in operation you should be emptying one chamber every 3 to 4 weeks.

Rodent Proof

The Jora JK400 Composter is sited off the ground so there is no possibility of rodents or other pests gaining access to the waste in the composter.

Construction:

  • Exterior: galvanized, powder-coated steel panels
  • Insulation: 2.16" HDPE polyethylene - a stable, non-toxic plastic
  • Stand: galvanized steel
  • Stainless steel hardware

*Please note, assembly requires at least two people. Due to the nature of the insulation and steel panels, assembling your Jora can be difficult.

In wet climates, it is best to place the Jora composter under cover to avoid rain soaking the contents. This cover could be the overhang of a roof, adjacent to a building or shed, or even the cover of a tree.

    Great customer service

This transaction was difficult, but not because of Earth Easy. FedEx screwed this up. Thanks to awesome company customer service (thank you Gillian Williams) for putting up with my incessant emails, calls and plethora of pictures, and promptly responding. I never felt like I had to hunt down help from Earth Easy customer service). After what seemed like more than a month of trying to get a replacement box of damaged and missing parts to me….it finally made it! We love it. Thank you Gillian for all your help, you were awesome. The compost bin is sturdy, and well made. I expect many years of happy composting as a result of the quality.

    Love it.

Was a little difficult to line up the different panels during installation. With some readjusting it finally went together. Took about 3 hours total. Now that’s it’s together it looks great and working excellent.

    What a wonderful product

We looked for a very long time before selecting the Jora JK400 to meet our composter needs. We are very impressed with the size of the two composting areas, how well constructed it is, and the ease of operation. We chose to replace the Phillips head screws that are used to hold the long panels to the ends with Hex head screws because it made it easier for one person to assemble. If we could give it six stars we would and highly recommend it to anyone who wants a non-plastic/greener solution that will last decades.

    Just finished putting it together,

Just finished putting it together, and setting in place, yesterday. Written instructions were very difficult to follow, but the online video was excellent. Srewing in the outer 6 panels wasn’t easy to do alone. Glad I had some long clamps to clamp it down and line up screw holes.

You have to think about front and back (relative to the cross-bracing) and which side you want the handle on. Written instructions should stress that. I had to partially disassemble and reverse things to get the handle on the correct( for me) side.

Thanks to the video, it all went together very nicely. All the screws were there.

I’m curious to see how well the insulation panels hold up. I was surprised that there wasn’t a thin shield to protect it. The insulation material must be very tough.

And so now —-, I just have to deal with the raccoon!

Nice Product, with a few caveats

I was super pumped to order my Jora JK400 finally after dreaming about it for a few years. Unfortunately, mine arrived damaged during shipping. It was just a few dings and I'm pretty handy so I did a little tinsmithing to make it work. Based on the packaging, I had a feeling that if I went through an exchange, the replacement would probably come back damaged as well. It is a great selling point when you see free shipping on a large item like this, but in my opinion, it should be palletized. I would love to know what percentage of these things arrive damaged and get shipped back and arrive damaged again.

Aside from that, the unit works great! I really like its sturdy construction and it does a great job holding the heat in to facilitate decomposition. I was a little disappointed with the foam on the inside of it. I thought it would be plastic over the top of the foam similar to the center divider, but that is not the case. Also, there is a different type of foam used on the doors than the rest of the interior. The foam on the doors is far superior in my opinion. Not sure why they didn't use that stuff throughout the whole interior.

Ultimately, I think I probably got the best composter out there, but it could stand to have a few improvements.

    Missing Parts

I was asked to review the compost but unfortunately cannot as I have parts missing. The order was placed May 18. Two pieces were missing. One of the parts arrived within a couple of weeks. It is now June 30 and I am still missing the second part.
