Overview

Made with solid cedar, this deer and pest proof 12' x 8' x 20" garden kit offers 65 square feet of gardening space, and is perfect for a family of five or six.

If you are looking to jump into gardening quickly, and do not want to deal with the chore of pest proofing and the challenge of irrigating your garden beds, this deer proof raised garden bed kit is perfect. The included 5' 7" high fence stops deer and other pests from jumping into your garden, while doubling as a trellis for tomatoes, peas, beans and other climbing vegetables.

The entry to the 12' x 8' garden is approximately 45 inches wide. The interior walkway is about 7 feet long, allowing easy access to the garden beds.

Features & Benefits:

  • Deer proof – 5'7" high fence doubles as a trellis, while preventing deer from jumping into the garden.
  • Tall beds – 20" tall beds mean you don’t have to bend down as far, and the soil will retain more moisture than shorter beds. Plus, you can grow larger plants with deeper roots. No liner needed.
  • 5/4" thick Cedar – made of high quality 1-1/8" thick rot resistant cedar lumber that is ideal for damp environments.
  • Hardware Included – Rust proof screws, brackets, and hinges.
  • Optional Automatic Watering System – and timer waters your garden for you. Comes with soaker hose, automatic timer, and sprayer.

Optional Automatic Watering System:

Located at the back corner of the garden, this automatic soaker hose watering system takes even the simplest of duties out of your hands. We use a digital battery operated controller that is very easy to use. A garden hose can be connected to the unit, or the hose adaptor can be removed so the irrigation unit can be tied into your existing irrigation system with piping. When the controller turns on, water seeps out through the 75 ft. soaker hose. Includes:

  • Digital Battery Operated Controller - automatically waters your garden.
  • Soaker Hose - lay hose around your plants, cover with a layer of mulch, and water seeps out when the controller turns on.
  • Coiled Hose - conveniently mounted in the walkway of the fenced garden.
  • Sprayer - attaches to end of the coiled hose. You can manually spray your plants if you choose to, or use the hose to wash your hands.

Please note this irrigation system works best if your water pressure (psi) is between 10 and 80. If the psi is greater than 80, the programmable timer in our system could be damaged. We recommend purchasing a water pressure regulator that will take your water pressure down to 40 psi.

Assembly:

You can assemble this deer proof raised garden bed kit yourself, or have a local handy person follow the instructions and set it up for you. Assembly takes about 6 hours, and adding the soil (approx. 4.5 cubic yards) can take an additional few hours. Note that no digging is required as the entire structure sits directly on the ground. Select a sunny and level piece of land for your garden.

All of our fencing sections are backed with 3/4" wire mesh. When the fencing is delivered, the mesh is already affixed. So, it takes only minutes to attach the fencing sections to the garden beds. Up close, it looks attractive, but from a distance you can't even see it.

Shipping & Delivery:

Please Note: The 12' x 8' Cedar Complete Raised Garden Bed Kit ships on a pallet via standard motor freight. The freight carrier will call in advance to schedule delivery. You may need two people present to unload freight from the delivering freight carrier vehicle.

Due to its large size, this item is not eligible to be returned or canceled once it has shipped. If you have any questions, please reach out before your purchase.

    Awesome kit!

I couldn't be happier with this garden kit. I bought it for my wife when we moved in to our new home and she is pumped! Very easy to assemble. Only took the two of us about 3 hours in total. The ONLY thing I would say could make it better is the first half (lower portion of garden) instructions were too dark so the pictures were difficult to verify which way it was meant to be built. But we got it.

    so far, so good

Delivered in February, but had to wait for spring to install. Seems well made and instructions pretty straighforward.

Our best location in backyard not quite level, so having to make adjustments on the fly, mostly re-digging small trench to sit flatter. Have gotten several compliments already, haven't started planting yet. . . but soon.

    Nearly there!

I had a helper for a half-day who assisted leveling the sand base, which took a while on my uneven ground, and then carrying and holding pieces while I drilled and screwed the pieces together. She and I got the raised bed together between 8:30 and 1:30 (this involved carting pieces from garage storage to the garden site at the far end of the property). After she had to leave for her next job, I assembled the door and stapled the liner fabric into the raised beds. It was pretty easy, as I had purchased 6’ wide fabric which perfectly covered side-bottom-side all the way around. I’ve spent several days since then filling the beds. I have two pallets of organic raised bed soil sitting on the end of my driveway, and have been able to wheel-barrow three or four 1 cubic foot bags at a time to rip them open and dump the dirt into the beds. Got one-third of the way through before freezing cold weather returned, but am facing a string of warmer days and expect to have all beds full in four more days of hefting dirt across my yard. Then I will be able to add the deer walls and door, which doesn’t require warm weather to complete. I’ve added an arbor (left over from a former gate at the front of my property) to one of the raised beds to support pole Lima beans, and plan to rat-mesh the entire structure to keep out chipmunks and squirrels. The plans are easy to follow, all necessary hardware came with, and the recommendation in the directions to clamp pieces together for drilling and…

My deer-proof raised garden bed and the Eartheasy staff restored my sanity and faith in people

Growing a garden in western Pennsylvania tends to make one less sympathetic over the death of Bambi’s mother. My family tried everything from chicken wire to scram to ultrasonic sensors– *nothing* deters the deer here. The last two years were so bad, my family did not successfully grow so much as a single tomato. Whilst considering hiring full-time bow hunters to stand guard at the perimeters of our home, I thankfully chanced upon Eartheasy’s website.

I selected and ordered this raised garden bed in February, and admittedly encountered some order and delivery errors. I was very worried. No matter! Eartheasy’s staff are the most considerate and helpful people I have ever encountered; they remedied every problem tout suite. I daresay if our world leaders had a modicum of the attributes of the Eartheasy team, there would be dancing in the streets, poverty would cease to exist, and clam shell plastic packaging would easily open.

Construction of the bed wasn’t difficult; it took four “adults” six hours in late April. If any of you are technically challenged like me, do what I did: invite three engineers to your house. Buy a large selection of local beers (6+abv%) and distribute. Point them in the direction of your Eartheasy pallet. Bet them all they can’t figure out the instructions. Watch the first round of Stanley Cup playoffs while aforementioned engineers compete over who can build the fastest.

Pittsburgh has on average only 68 sunny days. The rest of the year is…

Great company! Thrilled with every element of receiving and building our Deer Proof Raised Beds!

Due to our remote location and long driveway and an unexpected challenge with Fed Ex, the delivery was slightly complicated and beautifully managed by Eartheasy's service representative, Gillian Williams. She was incredibly accommodating and communicative. In terms of assembling the raised beds, we agree with the reviews that mentioned it is good to have a "handy neighbor who owns a drill and is good at using it" We definitely found this to be true. The directions for the garden itself are quite clear (especially for our neighbor!) and the three of us (neighbor and my husband and me) were able to erect the garden in the estimated time Eartheasy mentions (5-6 hours). We did follow their recommendation to spray the wood with the preservative. We used 2 jugs of Eco Advance preservative (safe for use around plants, pets, and people). We sprayed the wood twice. One important note if you buy the watering system (which is awesome). A different company produces the watering system, and this company does not take into account where you have placed the screws (according to Eartheasy directions) that hold the garden together. A few times we had to move the placement of the screws (which was no big deal but something to keep in mind) to attach the watering system. We are delighted with every aspect of our experience with Eartheasy! Highly recommend!

Raised Bed Kit that Delivers on its Promise !

This is a very good raised bed garden kit, with deer fence, at a reasonabe price - I could not have bought all the lumber and fixtures and done it any cheaper. We're very satisfied with the quality.

I promised my wife I would make her some raised beds for gardening. I needed to address our local deer as well. When I priced cedar at local lumber stores, I realized a self-designed solution was going to run into significant costs. Looking at ideas online we ran across the Eartheasy website selling Outdoor Living Today.

Materials: The entire kit with deer fence came on one pallet, extremely well packaged and protected. They certainly thought out the most compact way to package and ship - without any damage, with all necessary hardware.

Directions: These are very good. I would edit a few details, but the text and pictures allow one to figure it all out. It is complicated enough that the directions should actually be read thoroughly before assembly.

Assembly: Time to assemble should really be listed as two days instead of five hours. A skilled 2-person crew who have already done one before might manage to do it in 5 or 6 hours. But reading the directions carefully, clamping for squareness while drilling & screwing, and lining the bed with ground cloth all take time - and filling the beds is best done before the upper deer fence is added.

Conclusion: We like it well enough that we may purchase another.

If 70 yr olds can do it…

So can you! Slowly accomplished, but the result is a structure we are proud of and will enjoy for years. Thank you, eartheasy!
