notice how your flowers and vegetables seem to do so much better after
it rains? Even if you have been watering them regularly from your municipal
water system, they do far better with natural rainwater. For human health,
our municipal water systems are required to treat water with chemicals,
however this is not the best water for your plants. Perfect for both indoor
and outdoor plants, untreated natural rainwater can be of great benefit
to your plants.
The Rain Barrel is a 55-57 gallon food grade black recycled plastic barrel.
Since recycled commodity barrels are used as they become available, color
and exact dimensions may vary some. It has a 1.25" overflow tube
which allows you to re-direct the overflow water into your flower beds,
garden, splash-block or into a dry well. A brass spigot at the base is
ideal for either connecting a watering hose or irrigation system. Rain
barrel dimensions are: 22" wide x 39" tall; weighing 22 pounds.
The rain barrel comes with a "splash lid" which resembles a
strainer/collander. The downspout rests at the top of barrel allowing
the water to drain into the barrel. There is also a screen to keep out
the bugs and pests.

Notice the 5 foot 1.25" overflow tube that exits from the mid section of the unit. Few other rain barrels on the market have adequate overflow capabilities -- anything under 1" is simply too small. There is a connection on both sides of the barrel so this hose can exit either side. The overflow from the Rain Barrel can easily be redirected into flower beds, garden, dry well, or gravity-fed irrigation system.

Water stored in this Rain Catchment System is NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION. It is very important when storing water, especially outside, that you take several precautions.
Be sure to secure the hose connected to your storage unit to prevent anyone from drinking from it. Small children may be use to drinking from a hose in the yard so do not leave hoses connected to a water storage unit laying about. Be sure to explain to any children that may be in your yard that the water barrel is for plants only. Posting a sign next to or on your water barrel saying DO NOT DRINK is highly recommended.
The West Nile Virus is becoming a concern nation wide. This virus is typically spread by mosquitos so be sure to secure the top of your water storage unit with screening or sealants as needed to prevent mosquitos from getting access.
DO NOT STORE WATER IN THE RAIN BARREL IN FREEZING WEATHER. Water expands a great deal when it freezes and will split the barrel. Be sure the barrel and any connecting hoses are completely empty of water in freezing weather.
